Paul Michel Dupuy
(1869-1949)
Paul Michel Dupuy was a French painter of genre and landscape scenes. Following a crowd of artists in the wake of Impressionism in France, he was particularly drawn to scenes of recreation at the beach or in the mountains, often observing elegant women or children at play.
Dupuy studied under Bonnat and Maignan and excelled in both oil and watercolour painting. He was made a member of the Society of French Artists in 1899 and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais, where he won prizes in 1901 and 1902. He was so well received during his career that he was made a Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur in 1933.
Although many of his works are now held in private collections, the Museum of Reims also has a number of important Dupuy paintings.
