Jules-Bertrand Gélibert
(1834-1916)
Born in Bagnères-de-Bigorre in 1834, Gélibert undertook his training under the tutorage of his father Paul Gélibert who was a prominent figure of the Salon au Paris until his death in 1882.
Jules- Bertrand Gélibert was highly regarded for his paintings of hunting dogs and horses for which he won the prestigious medal of honour at the Sociétaire des Artistes Francais several times.
He was a member of La Sociétaire des Artistes Français where he was awarded a medal in 1869 and a second class medal in 1883. He was also bestowed a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889 and 1900, and was made a Chevalier de la Légion d`Honneur.
Museums where works of his can be seen include: Bognères-"Studies of Dogs," Cambrai- "Still Held " and St Etienne- "Pyrenean Sheep ".
