Edmond Marie Petitjean

1844-1925

 

Edmond Petitjean was born at Neufchateau 5 July 1844.

 

In 1874, Petitjean made his debut at the Paris Salon and from 1883 was a Societaire des Artistes Francais. At this time of his life, Petitjean painted the landscapes of Lorraine, the banks of the river Meuse and some views of Holland.

 

In 1881, 1884, 1885, 1889 and 1900, Petitjean was awarded medals of excellence for his work.

 

Petitjean also painted marine scenes, landscapes in Normandy and views taken from along the whole of the Atlantic coastline. Influenced by the Impressionist movement Petitjean painted with a lightness of touch and clarity of palette.
